THE PIRATE CINEMA
A CINEMATIC COLLAGE GENERATED BY PEER-TO-PEER NETWORK ACTIVITY
NICOLAS MAIGRET
& BRENDAN HOWELL, JEAN-MARIE BOYER
With the support of DICRéAM
The Pirate Cinema : TPC is based on a data interception software. It reveals, through a simple diversion, different aspects of exchange platforms, such as the global and multi-situated nature of Peer-to-Peer networks (P2P), the potential for viral transmission, and alternative social models. Its purpose is to make available for aesthetic exploration the pre-existing potentials of Peer-to-Peer architectures.

∏-NODE
HYBRID RADIO NETWORK
with the support of DeutschlandKulturRadio, ÖRF1, EMGantner, Dicréam, MU, CTM
– 2014
∏-Node is an experimental platform for hybrid Web/FM radiophonic composition. π-node is a multi-dimensional radio infrastructure platform that experiments the narrative, participative and imaginary possibilities of Radio through the use of both historic and new, digital technologies. The interconnectedness of these various dimensions, tools and networks allow for the establishment of a decentralized and hitherto unseen diffusion structure, where each of the network’s nodes serve to both receive and diffuse information. Such a structure creates a break with the classic one-way Radio format, substituting it with a horizontal peer-to-peer model that creates room to play with new potentials for multi-diffusion and superposition, as well as room to rethink the Radio network’s topology. π-node aims to explore the many dimensions of the Radio format and of radio diffusion – its physicality (ether, radio waves, and the electromagnetic spectrum), its spatiality (bandwith, frequencies), its infrastrucure (network of radio receivers/emitters), its methods of creation and editorial content management (programming boards/teams, recording studios), its methods of metadata reception (RDS/SDR), its history (radio libres and pirate radio movements, …), its legislation, and most importantly, ∏-Node also wishes to examine Radio’s future role at a time when everything is moved towards « the All Digital ».

FLAT EARTH SOCIETY
ART OF FAILURE
– 2008/2011
FLAT EARTH SOCIETY proposes a transposition of the earth elevation at the scale of a microgroove record. This engraving of elevation’s data on the surface of the disk generates in consequence a subtle image of the earth. When played on a turntable, the chain of elevation data crossed by the needle can be heard.

PIXEL LAB
OPEN SOURCE LAB RESIDENCY & MONTHLY WORKSHOPS
With the support of la Gaîté lyrique, Grundtvig, Pixelache Network
– 2014>2015
Within la Gaîté Lyrique’s ‘Laboratoire Ouvert’ residency frame, Mal au Pixel has developed from May 2014 to April 2015, a cycle of open meetings, gatherings and workshops offering critical points of view on current, emerging or future technologies. Artist-researchers have been invited to transmit their know-how during a workshop, in areas such as liquid data transmission low-tech systems to organic matter based computers, geostationary rubbish tracking devices, Tempest based radios, or even, cybernetic ghosts detectors.
With : Jean-Baptiste Bayle (Terminator Studies), Cécile Babiole & Jean Marie Boyer (Conversation au fil de l’eau), Martin Howse (Earth Coding), Olsen Wolff (Satellite Data Streams), Andy Bolus (Ghost Detektors), Bengt Sjôlen (Tempest Aura), Erich Berger & Mari Keski Korsu (DIY Geiger Counter), Hans Kristian Senneseth (Lite 2 Sound), Halldór Úlfarsson et Þráinn Hjálmarsson (Modular Acoustic Formant System), Access Space (Sync Pulse Orchestra).

OPEN SOURCING FESTIVALS
NETWORK COOPERATION PROJECT
With the support of la Gaîté lyrique, Grundtvig, Pixelache Network
– 2013>2015
How does an organisation open-source their cultural festival? Can we share the process for organising a festival, so that other groups can use it themselves? How do organisations support activities and events throughout the year? Can we share the process for sustaining ongoing programs, so that other groups can do this too? These are the questions that five experimental art, design and technology organisations from the Pixelache Network are asking themselves and others, and exploring, through a mobile circuit of workshops and seminars organized across Europe during 2013-2015. Our common objective to co-produce a digital culture festival together through seven learning steps, taking place in the different partner countries. In the process, Piksel (NO), Pikslaverk (IS), Mal au Pixel (FR) and Pixelache (FI) will gradually be working towards ‘open-sourcing’ their festival skills and tools to provide them to their UK partner Access Space Network, who will test and utilise them in organising their first digital culture festival, the closing event of this two year cycle. We hope this test implementation will refine our materials to be released for others to use and build upon.
With : Mario de Vega & Victor Mazon (Limen in Piksel), Marika Dermineur & Catherine Lenoble (Semantic Decontamination in Pixelache), Andy Bolus (Ghost Detektor in Lorna), Benjamin Cadon (Radio Pirate Box in Access Space), Jean-François Blanquet (log4data in Access Space);
